Fiona & Cody

Fiona and Cody’s wedding at River Stone Manor in Upstate New York was filled with everything I love about documentary wedding photography — genuine emotion, beautiful light and moments that unfolded naturally throughout the day.

As a documentary wedding photographer in Toronto, I’m drawn to photographs that feel honest and unforced. Rather than constantly directing a wedding day, I focus on documenting what is already happening — the nervous energy before the ceremony, friends laughing together, quiet glances across the room and all of the little interactions that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Fiona and Cody’s wedding was full of those moments.

River Stone Manor was a beautiful setting for the celebration, with its elegant grounds, surrounding greenery and views along the Mohawk River. The property gave us the perfect mix of classic portraits, natural scenery and spaces where the day could unfold without feeling overly staged.

Throughout the wedding, I photographed with a combination of documentary storytelling and editorial portraiture. I love creating a handful of intentional portraits while allowing the majority of the day to happen naturally. Some of my favourite photographs are often the completely unplanned ones — movement on the dance floor, guests interacting during cocktail hour, reactions during speeches and fleeting expressions between the couple.

Those moments are what make a wedding gallery feel personal.

My approach as a documentary wedding photographer in Toronto is also heavily influenced by cinema. I’m drawn to interesting light, deep shadows, movement and compositions that make photographs feel almost like stills pulled from a film.

The goal isn’t to make every wedding look the same. It’s to create photographs that actually feel like the people in them and preserve the atmosphere of the day exactly as it happened.

Fiona and Cody’s River Stone Manor wedding was a beautiful celebration to document, filled with emotion, energy and so many genuine moments from beginning to end.
